Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band

The Alchemist — Tue, 12/08/2009 - 11:56pm

A recent conversation triggered a memory of a lyric from a song that dove me a bit crazy because I could manage to remember most of that single line of the song, and I was pretty sure of who sang it, what movie it was in and part of the character's name, but not the song title or the rest of the lyrics.  It was a memory that I knew was there but was tantalizingly out of reach.  So like any good geek, I Googled it and resolve the problem.

It was "Fixing a Hole" sung by George Burns as Mr. Kite in the 1978 movie production of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.  Critically panned and a financial flop, it's still a good cult classic, and one that I thought that I'd share.

Renfey - Over Occupation

The Alchemist — Tue, 08/18/2009 - 9:34am

A delightful escape into the spirit.

Renfey captures a spiritual movemnt in her music so well that I had to post this.

Especially as it speaks so well to me about getting the mind out of the way of the voice of the spirit so you can hear the truth and not what you want to hear.

When All Is Said and Done - from "Mamma Mia!" - original by Abba

The Alchemist — Sun, 08/16/2009 - 8:12am

There will be the rare few of my close friends who truly understand why this song resonates so strongly with me, for the rest of you I'll just have to leave you wondering, for this is truly a case of "for those who understand, no explanation is needed, and for those who need an explanation, none is possible"

So just sit back and enjoy

Tom Lehrer - The Elements

The Alchemist — Tue, 08/11/2009 - 4:53am

A long time ago, in a childhood far, far away, a boy got hooked on the comedy songs of Tom Leher. Now you can easily blame his parents for exposing him to this egregious example of psychological abuse, but they knew not how much it would warp his developing mind and twist his sense of humor.

But enough about me, allow me to share with you one of the more famous songs by the illustrious Tom Lehrer, comedian and abuser of the public psyche. Creator of such immortal songs as "the Masochism Tango" and "Silent E" (as seen on "the Electric Company" children's TV series).

Bohemian Rhapsody - give it a hand

The Alchemist — Tue, 08/11/2009 - 3:46am

This is just silly, but you have to give him a hand for his skill with his hands.
