Journey to the Flames - 10 Years of Burning Man
The Alchemist — Tue, 01/12/2010 - 5:13am
A documentary covering 10 Years of Burning Man. We are trying to post as much video as we can up on our facebook page.
For one week every year, 50,000 people gather in the Black Rock desert to build a temporary city of art.
Founded as an experiment in radical self-expression, Burning Man is like no other place on earth. The ground rules are simple: no commerce, leave no trace, no spectators - participants only. You bring what you need to survive and you bring your gift of participation and art.
Black Rock City, as it is called, has everything you would expect in a real city: a post office, airport, radio stations, newspapers, police, fire and medical.
JOURNEY TO THE FLAMES was directed by Doug Jacobson, who follows a group of friends as they head off to the desert. Experience 10 years of amazing Burning Man art. Take a ride into the madness and discover a world of art, sexuality, music and fire... lots of fire.

I first saw this at Spike and Mike's Festival of Animation at the Museum of Modern Art in La Jolla, CA. And it's been happily burned into my memory ever since. (yes, I do know that I'm a sick puppy)
Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band
The Alchemist — Tue, 12/08/2009 - 11:56pm
A recent conversation triggered a memory of a lyric from a song that dove me a bit crazy because I could manage to remember most of that single line of the song, and I was pretty sure of who sang it, what movie it was in and part of the character's name, but not the song title or the rest of the lyrics. It was a memory that I knew was there but was tantalizingly out of reach. So like any good geek, I Googled it and resolve the problem.
It was "Fixing a Hole" sung by George Burns as Mr. Kite in the 1978 movie production of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Critically panned and a financial flop, it's still a good cult classic, and one that I thought that I'd share.
